Civil Servant of Dagon.
In 2012, having had no luck with my attempt at broad appeal the previous year, I reversed course into obscurity. Turning to the works of early twentieth-century horror fantasist H.P. Lovecraft, I conceived a costume inspired by his story The Shadow Over Innsmouth. It’s the tale of a town founded on the union between human beings and undersea horrors.
I would be a citizen of Innsmouth, in the process of transforming into a fish-monster. To show my town pride, I wore a waterlogged blue suit emblazoned with the Seal of the Port of Innsmouth, which I designed and embroidered by hand.
As expected, the elaborate costume was eye-catching but indecipherable. That was the point! When nobody recognized my Cyberman, it bummed me out, so choosing a deliberately obscure subject protected me from disappointment. And then, at the end of the day, a young woman ran up to me, leaned in close, and read the emblem on my jacket. Her eyes grew wide.
“God bless you, sir!” she exclaimed, and shook my hand.
I can only assume that the god to whom she referred was Dagon.
