A Movie Podcast for Dead People.

People react to loss in different ways. For Ted and I, we decided to record a podcast - the podcast that we wished we could have recorded with our middle brother, Ian.

On most internet platforms, Ian used the name Depot Devoid. It was a reference to the “Depot Devoid of Thought,” a place that one’s mind goes when it has lost a train of thought but not yet found a new one. The name doesn’t really have anything to do with the show, but it keeps our brother forever present.

Enter the Depot

We started recording in October of 2022, just three months after Ian passed. It was a way to stay connected to each other, and remember our brother, and talk about cool movies that we remembered from when we were kids. We did this for well over a year, before I finally started listening to the recordings. For no special reason, the first episode that I edited was Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death, a childhood favorite about feminism, guacamole, and the horror that lurks in the heart of darkness.

Since then, we’ve put dozens of episodes out into the world, releasing them in no particular order (our latest episode may have been recorded last week, or it might have been sitting in a folder for a couple of years! We usually tell you which.) We post links on social media, but neither of us makes any particular effort to get people to listen. This is something we do for ourselves and each other, and I hope that somewhere along the way we manage to make a few connections. Maybe you’ll be one of them.

If you like good movies, or bad movies, or weird movies, or brothers who are sad but also laugh a lot, maybe our little show is something you’d enjoy. Some of the earliest episodes were only edited in an audio format, but pretty soon I started to put out full video versions of everything.
